Intel has officially launched its Broadwell CPU lineup and it seems like they are going only with the “U” series processors. This means that we are going to wait at least six more months for the official launch of the Skylake CPUs. Supposedly, they will bring the next generation 14nm FinFET CPUs with all four cores and higher TDP for better performance.

As for now, we can only offer all Broadwell CPUs tested along with detailed information about every CPU part of the lineup.

Intel Core i3-5005U

Intel_Core_i3_logoIntel Core i3-5005U is part of the Broadwell generation processors from the vendor and its considered as low-end. It has two energy-efficient cores supporting HyperThreading technology for emulating one virtual core for each physical. Unfortunately, it doesn’t support Turbo Boost function and it has a base clock of 2.0GHz. The maximum cache size is 3072KB (3MB) with level 1 at 128KB, level 2 – 512KB and of course level 3 – 3072KB.

Maximum TDP is rated at 15W (or 10W cTDP Down), which includes the integrated graphics card. Speaking of which, like all Broadwell CPUs, this one features Intel HD Graphics 5500, but with a little slower clock frequency – 300MHz base and 850MHz turbo. Notable features include DDR3(L)-1600 Memory Controller, HyperThreading, AVX, AVX2, Quick Sync, Virtualization, AES-NI.

Intel Core i3-5010U

Intel_Core_i3_logoThe Intel Core i3-5010U is the next in line and it appears to be around 10 to 15% more powerful than the Core i3-5005U. Again this CPU has only two cores supporting HyperThreading technology, 3MB maximum cache size and still no Turbo Boost function leaving us with only 2.1GHz operating frequency. We are dealing with the same Intel HD Graphics as integrated GPU in the SoC, but this time slightly bigger range of Turbo Boost capabilities – 300-900MHz.

The TDP is again 15W (or 10 cTDP Down) entering the energy-efficient class of the U CPUs from Intel. Most important features and supporting technologies – DDR3(L)-1600 Memory Controller, HyperThreading, AVX, AVX2, Quick Sync, Virtualization, AES-NI.

Intel Core i5-5200U

Intel_Core_i5_logo-300x400The Intel Core i5-5200U processor is part of the Broadwell family and part of the “U” series CPUs. The “U” series offer a bit lower TDP, in this case, 15W, two energy-efficient cores and higher clock rates in order to keep power consumption low without sacrificing the performance.

The Core i5-5200U is clocked at 2.2GHz base frequency and can go up to 2.7GHz for one active core and 2.5GHz for two active cores, thanks to the Turbo Boost technology. Of course, it’s based on a 64-bit architecture and it’s manufactured by 14nm FinFET process, which means more power, less power consumption in a smaller die size to fit in smaller form factors. It also features the HyperThreading technology from Intel, which means that the CPU emulates one additional virtual core per physical one.

The CPU also features Intel HD 5500 integrated GPU with a base frequency of 300MHz and 900MHz Turbo Boost. Other distinctive features are DDR3(L)-1600 Memory Controller with up to 16GB, HyperThreading, AVX, AVX2, Quick Sync, Virtualization, AES-NI, DirectX 11.2 as well as OpenCL 1.3/2.0 support and OpenGL 4.3. It’s important to add that the i5-5200U has 128KB cache at level 1, 512KB at level 2 and 3072KB at level 3.

Intel Core i5-5300U

Intel_Core_i5_logo-300x400Since Intel brought the new Broadwell generation CPUs, they presented two processors part of the i3, i5 and i7 lineups. The Core i5-5300U is the second one in its class with two energy-efficient cores, it’s an “U” CPU, after all. It shares the same 64-bit architecture along with the 14nm FinFET manufacturing process.

The CPU has a base clock of 2.3GHz and can go up to 2.9GHz thanks to the Turbo Boost functionality, however, the CPU also offers the so-called HyperThreading technology that emulates one virtual core for each physical one. Keep in mind though, that the boost clock is 2.7GHz for two active cores and 2.9GHz for one. The processor also supports DDR3(L)-1600MHz and even 1866MHz dual channel memory up to 16GB.

It also integrates the Intel HD Graphics 5500 GPU with base clock of 300MHz and maximum of 900MHz with 24 Execution Units. The GPU supports DirectX 11.2 as well as OpenCL 1.3/2.0 and OpenGL 4.3. The overall maximum TDP of the SoC is 15W and a minimum of 10W.

Intel Core i7-5500U

Intel_Core_i7_logoIntel Core i7-5500U is a high-end processor released on January 05, 2015. It is part of the “Broadwell” generation and operates at a base frequency of 2.40GHz. If a higher frequency is needed, its two cores can overclock, and if they both operate in tandem, they go to 2.9GHz. The frequency goes up to 3GHz for only one core.

The chip is equipped with 128KB of first level cache, 512KB of second level cache, and 4MB of third-level cache. The Core i7-5500U has been developed using a 14nm process, allowing for the integration of the Intel HD Graphics 5500 controller. It operates at a base frequency of 300MHz, while Turbo Boost can increase that to 950MHz. TDP consumption of the whole SoC (System on a Chip) is 15 watts with a maximum operating temperature of 105C.

Intel Core i7-5500U supports TurboBoost (increasing the clock frequency when necessary), HyperThreading (additional virtual core for every physical one), PCI Express 3.0, DDR3/L/ 1333/1600 memory, AVX, AVX2.0, FMA, QuickSync and the SSE4 instruction set.

Intel Core i7-5600U

Intel_Core_i7_logoThe Core i7-5600U is the most powerful CPU from the latest Broadwell CPU lineup from Intel and like all other CPUs from 5000 series, this one features the usual 64-bit architecture and 14nm FinFET manufacturing process. It’s also developed under the “U” series CPUs which sport two energy-efficient cores with HyperThreading technology for emulating one virtual core for each physical one. The CPU’s base frequency is 2.6GHz and a maximum of 3.1GHz for two active cores and 3.2GHz for one active core.

The Core i7-5600U supports dual channel DDR3L-1333/1600 or LPDDR3-1333/1600 memory up to 16GB. However, unlike most CPUs from this lineup, the Core i7-5600 has 4MB cache, which means 128KB for level one, 512KB for level two and 4096KB for level 3. The CPU also integrates the latest intel GPU – Intel HD Graphics 5500 with 24 Execution Units, 300MHz base clock and up to 950MHz Turbo Boost, which is 50MHz higher clock rate than most CPUs from the Broadwell family. The maximum TDP of the SoC is 15W as usual, but we have a lower minimum TDP of 7.5W.
